Flat roofs play a special role in the installation process of photovoltaic systems. A flat roof has both advantages and disadvantages. Due to the lack of roof tilt, the modules must be mounted flat. Since a strongly reduced energy yield is expected, a mounting frame system is used. The advantages and disadvantages of mounting photovoltaic modules on flat roofs are:

 

Advantages and disadvantages of mounting on flat roofs

On flat roofs, the PV modules are installed and elevated on a stable mounting system. One of the disadvantages of flat roofs is the fact that the available space cannot be used optimally. A minimum distance must be maintained when installing the solar modules in order to avoid shading effects. In addition, the mounting of modules on flat roofs is vulnerable to wind and must be designed to withstand the corresponding loads. Overall, these flat roof solutions are usually more expensive than mounting on pitched roofs, but also have significant advantages. The angle of inclination and the orientation of the modules can be freely selected and is not determined by the roof tilt. The PV modules are easier to access for maintenance and cleaning due to the distances between them. The free mounting also ensures optimum cooling of the PV modules and thus increases the efficiency of the system. The Trifix flat roof mounting system

We have designed Trifix as a flexible solution for the direct mounting of PV modules on flat roofs. We focused on a design that is as variable as possible for different requirements and module types. For example, different angles of attack can be implemented during the installation. Different foot options allow a flexible positioning of the system. We achieve this high degree of adaptability through a modular system and guarantee maximum flexibility. The modules can be mounted either vertical or landscape. The construction of the flat roof mounting system is very simple and consists of only a few components. These include triangles, a stable roof connection as well as rails and module clamps for fastening the PV modules. We also use our proven Clickstone internal click technology for a secure fastening. It offers a high level of security even in difficult weather conditions. A special design tool enables individual planning and directly saves costs through efficient use of materials.

 

Mounting with the Light S and EW Proline

Our Light Proline rooftop photovoltaic systems do not require any roof penetration. We have designed the flat roof mounting system as a light ballasted solution for various roof orientations with a maximum inclination of up to 5°. The Light S Proline mounting system is used to install PV modules on south-facing roofs. Similarly, the Light EW Proline is designed for east-west oriented roofs. The structure is the same for both products and consists of flexible foot options that allow an angle of attack of 10° or 15°. A transverse mounting of the PV modules ensures even load distribution on the roof. For additional safety, we have tested the system in a wind tunnel and further optimised it. With this mounting system we ensure simple installation through prefabricated components and the use of proven mounting system technology. This supports the technicians on site, saves time and reduces costs.
