Mounting systems for the largest solar carport in the world

08.06.2021

Mounting Systems has developed its Sigma Carport solution for the world's first 35 MWp solar carport park supplied by Solarfields and Lowlandsin Biddinghuizen, the Netherlands. The solar park is being built on the Lowlands parking lots next to the MOJO open-air festival site and covers an area of 35 hectares. A total of 90,000 bifacial solar modules will generate 35 MWp of energy, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 10,000 households per year or 100 festival weekends. Currently, the parking lot is used by at least four major festivals from May through October. The annual carbon emissions avoided are 18,410,000 kg.

Steel structures on a sturdy foundation

After a thorough assessment of the ground conditions, 2,770 special concrete foundation piles, each five meters long and weighing three tons, were driven into the ground. Once a stable foundation had been created, the steel systems were installed. Depending on the application, three different types of steel structures were assembled from standardized components - two structures for one car with three PV modules vertically and one structure for two cars (facing each other) with five PV modules vertically. The hot-dip galvanized structures in combination with the robust concrete foundations guarantee a solid and reliable carport system for more than 25 years.

Ground Mount Systems for an 18 MWp PV Plant in Germany

07.04.2021

Mounting Systems has delivered two-post ground mount systems for a photovoltaic plant, located in eastern Germany, approximately 60 km from the capital, Berlin.

A total of around 541 tons of assembly material was delivered by trucks directly to the construction site. Deliveries were made in stages to ensure a smooth and organized construction process at the site.

The foundation method chosen for the project was driven piles, which were driven to a embedment depth of 1.50m. The Sigma II system was adapted for a module inclination of 17°, and 40.320 PV modules were installed using module clamps. The PV system has an electrical DC capacity of 18 MWp.

Boguslav, Ukraine - Sigma II

Sigma II PV Mounting System

Renewable energy for 27,000 households

The Boguslav solar plant is located in the Kiev region of central Ukraine. The plant, which provides 61 GWh of energy per year and will supply 27,000 thousand households with electricity, was realized with our adaptable Sigma II PV mounting system.

In addition, 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be avoided each year thanks to the solar park. Our project partner Scatec Solar operates, maintains and manages the plant.

Benban, Egypt, 130 MWp

Mounting systems for the largest solar carport in the world

Mounting Systems has supplied the first Egyptian solar tracker project in Benban with the second generation Sigma Tracker system. In cooperation with ib vogt, the two Berlin-based companies installed a project scope of 130 MWp and 1,500 Sigma Tracker systems, respectively. The Sigma Tracker was developed for use in extreme environmental conditions and is selected for projects like the one in Benban for this reason. The technical advantages of the Tracker system are particularly evident in terms of durability, the use of standard industrial components and the simplicity of installation.

Goussaincourt, France - Sigma II

In Goussaincourt, France, Mounting Systems supplied the Sigma II installation systems for a project built in collaboration with Bouygues ES. Due to the hard ground, our Sigma II was chosen as it was perfectly suited with its height adjustable split post. This, along with the relatively small cross-section of the posts, allowed for fast and efficient pre-drilling. More than 18,000 boreholes, which were backfilled with the excavated material to drive the posts, were thus drilled in less than 3 months.

Akadyr, Kashakhstan - Sigma II

Mounting Systems supplied the highly adaptable Sigma II ground-mounted system made of steel for a solar park of GOLDBECK SOLAR GmbH in Kazakhstan. The special feature of the Akadyr II project was that bifacial modules were used together with the bifacial-optimized mounting system, which guarantees maximum bifacial gain. The bifacial substructures, the high angle of inclination and the high ground clearance ensured that shading effects on the rear of the modules could be avoided.

Sigma II ground mount project grid connected in Ukraine

07.01.2021

The year 2021 got off to a perfect start in terms of Mounting Systems' outdoor projects. On January 1, 2021, the Kamianka project in central Ukraine was completed and put into operation. The 32 MWp photovoltaic plant was built in cooperation with project partner Scatec.

Kamianka solar park

The expected annual energy yield is about 37 GWh, and the solar plant will supply more than 11,000 households with green electricity. In addition, CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than 15,000 tons. For the Kamianka project, Mounting Systems supplied its robust and adaptable Sigma II two-post mounting systems, further strengthening its outdoor portfolio.

Mounting Systems at the New Energy World Forum in Berlin

18.09.2020

New business contacts, networking and sharing with industry peers are topics that have been challenging in recent months due to the Corona pandemic. As a result, many new and innovative digital platforms have been created to fill this void of missed opportunities. However, no matter how well-functioning and great these new innovations may be, there is no complete substitute for face-to-face interaction and direct contact with other people.

The annual conference Forum New Energy World, which usually takes place in November, has been brought forward this year to September 24 and 25. Adhering to all hygiene and distance rules, the congress organization Conexio GmbH will hold the event outdoors this year. The program will include many inspiring keynotes, interactive elements and insightful exchanges between industry peers.

New Energy World Forum

The New Energy World Forum has been the most important meeting place for innovators in the new energy world for more than 20 years. The focus of the Forum is on the exchange of ideas and the expansion of corporate networks. Following the physical event, a digital conference will be held on November 19 and 20. Here, the focus will be on knowledge transfer, information exchange and discussion.

Mounting Systems is one of the "Gold Sponsors" of the event and will have a booth. Join us at the event and come and talk about our Ground-mounted rack solutions for the solar energy turnaround. We look forward to seeing you there!

Outdoor system for the optimized bifacial Use

Mounting systems for the largest solar carport in the world

Monofacial photovoltaic modules, which receive solar radiation only from the front of the module, have long been the prevailing industry standard. In recent years, however, the focus has increasingly been on bifacial PV modules, which offer many new possibilities and advantages to their installers. The biggest difference between mono-facial and bifacial modules in practice is that bifacial modules are able to collect reflected and diffuse solar radiation from the back of the module as well.

Depending on many factors, such as installation height, the reflectivity (albedo) of the subsurface, shading of adjacent rows, and the amount of diffuse radiation, the additional bifacial yield can be as high as 30%. Since 2014, bifacial installations have increased rapidly, and there appears to be no end in sight. Some estimates suggest an increase of up to 60% in the near future, which means that bifacial solar systems could become the new industry standard.

Sigma II for bifacial use

The Sigma II system from Mounting Systems

At Mounting Systems, we have optimized our substructures accordingly to respond to the growing demand for bifacial systems. Our excellent bipartite Sigma II Ground-mounted system is specially designed to avoid shading on the back of the modules. The fixed mounting system is highly adaptable, allowing for a fully customized design. The ease of installation together with the corrosion resistance make the system a wise investment and guarantees a long life.

In addition, the system enables multiple module configurations. Depending on the specific requirements of a project, different foundations such as driven piles, ground screws or base plates can be used. Like all our other mounting systems, the Sigma II is developed and produced under certified sustainability standards and the components are easy to dismantle and recycle.
